Consumer Alert

I did not intend to publish this page, although after several situations with some of the health care professionals in our area discrediating the Accu-SPINA and IDD therapy and misleading the public, I decided to publish this page and to give you the facts and therefore let you make your own decision as to which spinal decompression table you feel would be the best for you.

For those of you looking into spinal decompression treatment, that do not live in our area, I would still recommend that you read the following information.

Misleading Advertising with Spinal Decompression Therapy

"Would you buy a Hyundai based on Volvo safety rating?"

No!

So, when someone quotes you the research based upon the Accu-SPINA and

IDD Therapy and then shows you a different table...

“Do Not Expect The Same Results”

Due to the unprecedented success of IDD Therapy with low back pain, there are many Copy-Cat machines quoting the Accu-SPINA and IDD research.

Beware of other traditional traction tables that advertise as spinal decompression.

Ask any doctor to see the research!

Every week, I see patients who have tried other so - called "decompression" tables.

Be careful what they are selling you.

Confused About the Different Types of Decompression Treatments Available?

It seems that ads for spinal decompression for low back pain and leg pain resulting from degenerative, bulging, and herniated discs are popping up everywhere.

A common statement that is heard in marketing spinal decompression to the public goes something similar to this:

“As Southern Utah’s first and only Certified Spinal Decompression Center”

There is a lot of confusion and questions regarding a host of new medical devices on the market all claiming to utilize “decompression therapy” for the treatment of low back and neck pain.

In order to clarify any negative information that you may have read and/or treatments that you have already received, that were less than positive, please take time to read the following information below as well as the clinical studies mentioned on this website.

All spinal decompression tables and treatment protocols are not created equal.

If you have used other spinal decompression equipment and your treatments and/or results have been unsuccessful or not as positive as you were promised,

"Please ask about our no risk guarantee"...

We are offering this at the present time, to show you how successful your treatment outcome and results can be, using the researched and clinically based Accu-SPINA decompression table and the IDD Therapy protocols.

The manufacturers of today’s so-called “decompression” devices produce abundant amounts of marketing materials claiming success rates of 85% plus.

They make claims of ‘revolutionary breakthroughs’ and of utilizing ‘state of the art technology’ and ‘high tech pain reduction and healing systems’.

All of this, without published peer reviewed clinical research studies or patient outcomes to support their claims.

When considering any treatment, ask if the studies are valid. Who performed the study and what are their credentials? Was the study published in a peer reviewed (recognized) medical journal?

These devices claim to have a similarity in design and function to the Accu-SPINA Therapeutic Table (which has a history of clinical research and studies published in the medical literature).

Many companies market their spinal decompression tables based upon research conducted on the Accu-Spina and/or Vax-D Spinal Decompression Table’s.

In our view this type of marketing campaign to both healthcare professionals and the public is unethical and represents misdirected information.

These comments wouldn’t be necessary if each spinal decompression manufacturer could market their spinal decompression tables on their own merits.

For instance, on the Promotional CD for the SpineMED Decompression table, which is used, to market the table to healthcare professionals and the public lists the following studies below.

check  An Overview of Vertebral Axial Decompression -
     Vax D Therapeutic Table Study

check  Effects of Intradiscal Pressure -
     Vax D Therapeutic Table Study

check  An Outcome Study -
     Vax D Therapeutic Table Study

check  MRI Evidence of Non-Surgical Mechanical Reduction –

AccuSpina (DRS) Study by Dr. Norman Shealy

check  Pain Management – New Concepts – (Accu-SPINA / DRS)
     Dr. Norman Shealy

check  Spinal Decompression - No mention of equipment used in this study

check  Inverterbral Disc Pressures During Traction - No mention of equipment
     used
in this study

In the Reference Information which is contained on the CD below, I have added extra information. This information does not appear on the actual contents of the CD, but does appear in the reference files.

As you find yourself reading the studies, you will notice none of the studies, actually used the SpineMed table but are utilizing studies that have been done using the Vax-D and the Accu-Spina (DRS) tables.

If you are considering spinal decompression treatment here are some points of consideration and questions to ask to help you make the best choice.

Today’s healthcare market is abundant with super-salesmen with a cloak of new
promotional campaigns that utilize scientific references.

What sells is not the quality of the product, but the ability of the healthcare professional to influence their audience.

Even when the healthcare professional realizes their treatment method is unproven, they attempt to minimize this by mentioning that it has been proven to the satisfaction of the FDA or one of the recognized medical societies.

The best way to avoid being taken in is to do your homework when considering
spinal decompression treatments, and this includes ours as well.

Is the equipment they are using actually has research and ask for a copy?

Ask for copies of all of the published research that has been done with the particular spinal decompression table you are considering for treatment before investing your time, money and health.

This includes both clinical and patient-relevant outcomes.

Make sure they substantiate their own claims, and not the claims of their competitors.

When investigating the research and clinical studies, look at which spinal decompression table is being used in the study and compare this to the table you are considering for treatment.

If the table you are considering for treatment, is not the same spinal decompression treatment table which is being used in the studies mentioned and/or provided, be assured the outcome of your success may not be the same.

Unfortunately, in today’s healthcare market separating
the ‘hope’ from
the ‘hype’ is no simple task.
